Student Voice for Inclusive PE

About

Disabled or other marginalised groups of children are more likely to be excluded in educational research. Exploring novel methodologies to conduct inclusive research is imperative.

In this project, we are seeking to implement and evaluate a novel participatory research project in Physical Education and consider ways inclusive research and support inclusive educational practices.

This research will appeal to a wide range of readers. Reading about the importance and conduct of inclusive research raises awareness and better understanding of the marginalisation of students. Such discussions can foster greater empathy and a more inclusive mindset.

It can also empower individuals (e.g., parents) or groups or organisations to advocate for better policies and practices that promote inclusion and equity in schools and other community (including sport coaching) settings. This research can also inspire school leaders and staff to review existing provision and to consider inclusion initiatives that are grounded in student voice

The primary aim is to bring together disabled and non-disabled students from a wide range of backgrounds - and a research facilitator - to create an inclusive research community.

The students will become researchers with the aim to better understand their own and their peers’ lived experiences of inclusion/exclusion in PE in a way that has not been done before.

Data collection will be complete in 2024-25.
